Event Info

Mark your calendars for Sunday, October 19, 2025, at 7:15 AM! Experience the thrill and breathtaking views of crossing the iconic Newport Pell Bridge on the only day of the year it’s open to pedestrians. This 4-mile, point-to-point race starts in Jamestown and finishes in downtown Newport, welcoming runners and walkers of all ages and paces.

2025 Registration opens on May 1st!

Mission

This non-profit event donates 100% of net proceeds to Rhode Island charities. The Rhode Island Turnpike and Bridge Foundation supports around 30 local nonprofits annually through funds raised by the Citizens Pell Bridge Run and 4 Bridges Ride.

We very strongly encourage participants to pick up their bib and shirt on Friday or Saturday at the packet pick up to alleviate race morning delays. There is no onsite registration on Sunday.

Getting There

Parking

There is no parking at the race start in Jamestown — athletes must take the Newport shuttle or use designated drop-off spots. Free parking is available at the Newport Visitors Center until 9:00 AM (limited space) or at other lots, and street parking throughout downtown Newport.

Shuttles

In order to put on this event, we must comply with strict time constraints and appreciate your cooperation and respect for our requirements. To ensure a smooth event, all athletes must follow their assigned shuttle time (sent Thursday of event week). Shuttles run from the Newport Bus Depot to Jamestown starting at 5:30 AM, with the last departure at 6:45 AM. Assignments are based on registration order—early registrants get later times. Race bibs are required to board, and shuttles are for registered participants only. Thanks for your cooperation!

Jamestown Drop-Off

Athletes are welcome to be dropped off near the starting line in front of the RITBA building on East Shore Rd. (map) instead of taking the shuttles. Please note that there is no parking at the race start and there are no shuttles back to Jamestown following the race. All athletes must be dropped off before East Shore Rd. closes at 7:00 AM.

Additional Information

Waved Start

To accommodate the large number of participants, the race will feature multiple wave starts, each consisting of approximately 200–300 participants. The first wave begins at 7:15 AM, with subsequent waves starting sequentially a few minutes apart. Participants are encouraged to self-seed by pace, with faster runners starting first and walkers beginning in the final waves.

Gear Bags

There is no designated gear drop-off at the Jamestown start or the Newport finish line before the race. Please dress appropriately for the cold and wind. Athletes who wish to remove layers must do so before reaching the bridge in Jamestown at the start. Do not leave any items on the bridge. All discarded clothing will be collected and donated to charity.

Prohibited Items

We do not allow the following on the course: unregistered runners, pets, baby joggers, strollers, any wheeled vehicles other than wheelchairs (In accordance with USATF guidelines, wheelchair athletes must wear helmets).

Awards

A finisher’s medal will be given to all race participants. Awards will be available onsite following the race for the:

  • Top three overall male and female finishers
  • Top male and female finisher in each of the following age groups:
    • Under 19, 20-24, 25-29, 30-34, 35-39, 40-44, 45-49, 50-54, 55-59, 60-64, 65-69, 70+

Awards are based on gun time, please be sure to seed yourself in the first wave if you are aiming for contention.

Water, Coffee & Hot Chocolate

Water, hot chocolate and coffee will be offered at the starting line in Jamestown. We will host one on-course water stop at the base of the Pell Bridge in Newport.

Water will be available at the finish line provided from our partners at Polar Beverages.
